about

Deleted Memory is a secret production group, which operates from the cellars and vaults of irrelevance. The music of this two-man formation is best characterised as paradoxical avant-garde. A basic idiom of improvised music is modified with electronic devices.

In order to appreciate its maximum effect the music of Deleted Memory must be played fairly hard. Because it requires its own environment and standard its supremacy will only reach its full potential, if the music is listened to for a long time, until it becomes the listener’s sole and unique world.

The works on this album are original compositions developed from and enriched with extensive improvisations. Almost by accident, yet with a core of real craftsmanship, they have emerged over the last 10 years. Having been pared down endlessly and patiently without ever resisting impulse or dissonance, the compositions eventually managed to escape to its creators, who cannot retell what purpose and idea is exactly realised here. Therefore one could speak of objective music, or matter music, which has written itself and employed the composers themselves as its instrument. Some songs are so unique that they can rarely be reproduced by the musicians.

The two musicians/composers have played together in various formations for 30 years. In 1993 they withdrew to the smallest possible core group, responding to the question: what kind of music can be made by two? Their inspirations are free jazz, Dutch improvised music, blues, rock and even Baroque and Renaissance classical music. Their fascinations extend to Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Pharaoh Sanders, John Zorn, Gato Barbieri, Fred Frith, John McLaughlin, Captain Beefheart and Marc Ribot.

The method of wild composition with this amalgam of sources has yielded in a completely individual style. Remote spheres, distant horizons and vague events are evoked by a music that oscillates between hard metallic, artistically destructive and intellectualistic modern. Long digressions and meditative exercises in monotony culminate now and then in true explosions of pure noise.
